In works such as the systematic documentation of the Brown sisters by Nicholas Nixon or Roni Horn’s installation of random portraits of herself taken over her entire life by friends and family but never before seen by the artist, the camera allows us to intimately experience the ever-changing self. In this deeply moving exhibition catalog, curators Gabrielle Conrath-Scholl and Gabriele Spindler have selected specific works that pose questions about life choices, destiny and the influences that affect the evolution of the physical image.
