A leading voice on Dada, Surrealist and Latin American art, the art historian and curator Dawn Ades has written extensively on a wide range of artists, from Francis Bacon to Salvador Dali. In addition to her own research, Ades also serves as director of the Arts and Humanities Research Board Centre for the Study of Surrealism and its Legacies at the University of Essex. Arranged thematically, this volume collects Ades’ important essays for the first time. Ranging from avant-garde poster design to the representation of the female in Mexico—yet with an overarching foundation in abstraction—this body of writings highlights her passionate voice across time periods and art movements.
