Mario Schjetnan’s work combines the inseparable trilogy of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. This richly illustrated, oversize book features Schjetnan’s interdisciplinary approach, which, as he explains it, “unites social concerns, aesthetics and ecology – all by way of interpreting and celebrating Mexico’s rich and diverse culture.” Among his numerous awards are the Prince of Wales/Green Prize in Urban Design for Xochimilco Ecological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the American Society of Landscape Architects President’s Award for Excellence for Parque El Cedazo, an amusement park designed to educate about the environment. The book illustrates the designer’s concept of “metropolitan ecology” in which architecture, urbanism, and nature coexist in a dynamic mosaic.
